Wally’s Route 66 Travel Center- Pontiac IL is the first, the OG, the Flagship of the new Wally’s brand of Luxury Travel Centers. Wally’s Ownership wanted to create a Family Friendly Oasis for the road traveler on vacation or business. Recalling the days of kids thrown into the back of the family station wagon and setting out for an adventure, the days of the Great American Roadtrip, this concept was born. In order to achieve this, the Architecture needed to match the theme of that period. Mid-Century Modern was selected, but with a Contemporary update rather than a Retro homage. Retro would be easier, Contemporary Modern is more challenging. With inspiration coming from the greatest Mid-Century American Architects, we developed a building with sweeping geometric lines, clean linear articulation, large windows and a large vault to invite guests and the outside into a special space. The concept of offering guests extensive and unique retail items coupled with handy convenience items, Artisanal drinks and award winning food offerings takes travelling to the next level. Ownership’s concept of the modern roadtrip and the contemporary interpretation of Mid-Century Modern Architecture is a perfect blend, emphasizing how Architecture can compliment an Owner’s concept.

Unique food, drink and spatial experience awaits guests in The Vault.
